Weekend Update

I went out Friday night for a few drinks from some places I'd heard of but hadn't yet been to. It's really nice to get to know Sarasota in a new way and find some favorite spots.  Of course there's the old favorites I squeezed in at the end of the weekend too.

Afternoon Snack + Some Tunes

I don't know how I never knew this before, but you can easily grow your own lentil sprouts!  All you need is a package of dried lentil beans, H2O, cheesecloth (i used saran wrap and it works fine), a clear container, and sunlight!  It is sooooo cheap and tasty!

Here's some simple steps-

Juice Head

I've been using my juicer a lot more lately.  It's sorta a lot of work- cutting, pealing, cleaning- but it pays off to have fresh juice.

Here's what I made today-

I started with a big ol' bowl of fruit- apples, mango, kiwi, and lime

nothing lasts, nothing is finished, and nothing is perfect.

Pared down to its barest essence, wabi-sabi is the Japanese art of finding beauty in imperfection and profundity in nature, of accepting the natural cycle of growth, decay, and death. It’s simple, slow, and uncluttered-and it reveres authenticity above all. Wabi-sabi is flea markets, not warehouse stores; aged wood, not Pergo; rice paper, not glass. It celebrates cracks and crevices and all the other marks that time, weather, and loving use leave behind. It reminds us that we are all but transient beings on this planet-that our bodies as well as the material world around us are in the process of returning to the dust from which we came. Through wabi-sabi, we learn to embrace liver spots, rust, and frayed edges, and the march of time they represent. -Tadao Ando

Cupcakes!!!

So by the end of work Friday I was annoyed, had a headache, and had errands to do.  I had to run to a couple banks around town and really needed a pick me up!  Thank heavens for Cakes by Ron.  I had seen it driving by and my mom mentioned it the other day too.  Well I passed it on the way home and could not resist!

Drug Store Round Up

Another edition of the drug store round up! This time shampoo/conditioner and oral health!

I picked up some Organix Hydrating Tea Tree Mint Shampoo and Rejuvenating Cherry Blossom Ginseng Conditioner.  They both say they are earth friendly (eco-friendly bottles) and not tested on animals but not completely organic like you would think from the brand name.

I bought some of their smoothing hair serum a while ago and it works almost as good as Paul Mitchell's Skinny but a fraction of the price.  So I figured I'd try some more of their stuff.  This shampoo and conditioner get two thumbs up also!  The shampoo smells heavenly- very refreshing and minty.  The conditioner smells good too -very sweet smelling but not too much.  My hair feels nice and smooth after I wash it, and the shower smells great!

I also bought some Tom's toothpaste and mouth wash after watching some videos about how fluoride is a waste produce from aluminum plants and how it actually has negative effects on the body.  The origin of how fluoride got in our water systems is pretty interesting .  I'll try to find the videos and post them at the bottom.

Also, I was listening to one of the programs on WPRK 91.5 (you can also stream their station on line- they usually have pretty good tunes!) about conspiracy theories super early in the morning one day on the way to school and they were talking about how the government uses fluoride as mind control.  I wouldn't go that far but I don't agree with it being in our water and foods after learning more about it.

I got this fluoride free toothpaste  because I figure I get enough fluoride from tap water and I was over dosed on fluoride as a kid (thanks mom) because the water where I lived growing up didn't have fluoride in it and the directions on the flouride tablet box were in dutch and you know... everything else I learning about it from the docs.

The toothpaste works just as well or even better than anything else I've used and it came in a compostable box.  The mouth wash is ok.  It doesn't feel that strong but I like to use it to rinse my mouth out after I floss rather than using just water.  Two thumbs up!

Here's one of the videos   The Fluoride Deception
And here's a couple more documentaryheaven.com

Both these sites have good documentaries on different things if you have time to kill.
It's nice to finally be settled in my own room, and not on the couch like I was for the first week I was home, and to have all my things put away in my own space.  I really like how it is looking so far but it didn't start out so great.  Here's what it looked like after clearing some things out...

Green Monster

I've been trying to be more healthy and the green monster has been a part of that on a daily basis.  I've been eating more healthy in general and lost a few pounds with out really trying but it is a plus since I packed on a few in the last couple years. (It would be nice to weigh W-7 pounds)  I haven't really been working out... I did start the Couch Potato to 5 K but only got through the first week before i got a cold... cough cough sniffle sniffle... but as soon as I get over it I'll be back to it.

I got the Green Monster recipe idea from a friend and it's the only one I've tried.  It's just like a blueberry banana smoothie I'd make normally but with spinach.  All the other ones I've seen don't seem like they would be as good.  I know Ashley also puts... I think it's called Super Green in hers which I might have to take a trip to Whole Foods for.

Here is how I make mine:

Opps forgot to put the banana in the picture
